GOSHEN, Ind. – A local standout is heading to Goshen College to continue her academic and athletic careers.  Maple Leaf head coach Doug Yoder announced the signing of Northwood High School product Cynthia Medina on Monday.

"Cynthia brings lots of ability and championship level experience and will make an immediate impact on our cross country and track programs," Yoder explained.  "We will look to her to raise the level of competitiveness that the entire team is capable of."

Medina is a three-time team Most Valuable selection in both cross country and track for the Panthers.  In cross country, she has qualified for semi-state on three occasions and was a state qualifier (19th-place finish) as a senior.

The best performances of her career include 2:24 in the 800 meters, 5:17 in the 1,600 meters, 11:32 in the 3,200 meters, and 18:41 in the 5k.

Apart from her running prowess, Medina is part of the National Honor Society, the Academic Fine Arts Team, Business Professionals of America, and was named Academic All-State.  After graduating in the top five in her class, the daughter of Jose and Patricia Medina plans on studying Physical Therapy.

"Along with outstanding athletic ability, she also brings high academic abilities and will contribute to the cross country/ track teams high academic tradition as well," Yoder added.  "It is great to be able to bring in a top tier recruit to our program."
