GOSHEN, Ind. – After getting a taste of what it takes to compete in the Mid-Central College Conference, first-year head coach Fabio dos Santos has been busy putting together a 2012 roster poised to move up the conference standings. On Friday, dos Santos announced a major piece in that puzzle with the signing of local standout Emma Caskey of Bethany Christian High School.
"Emma is a great addition to our program and will help us reach our goals," dos Santos explained. "She brings to Goshen love for the sport and a tenacious desire to be successful at whatever cost it takes."
A four-year star forward for the Bruins, Caskey has been named to the All Northern Indiana Soccer Conference three times. In all three of those seasons (2009, 2010, and 2011), she notched double-digits in scoring, including a career high 17 as a junior. The prolific scorer was selected as her team's Offensive Most Valuable Player following both her junior and senior seasons.
Caskey's four-year career saw her finish fourth all-time at Bethany in scoring with 134 career points. She also ranks fourth in goals scored (50) and assists (34) and was part of the Bruins team in 2009 which won the program's fifth sectional title.
Equally impressive off the soccer pitch, Caskey will be a four-year letter winner in tennis and has twice been named Academic All State. She has also been active in musicals and dramas at Bethany, being a cast member in Rags, the Sound of Music, You Can't Take It With You, and Joseph the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
"Emma is a great person on and off the field and I know she will find her space and respect with her new teammates," dos Santos added. "I am very happy that Emma chose Goshen and she will have an impact as early as her first year."
The daughter of Jim and Lisa Caskey, Emma intends on studying Social Work upon starting at Goshen College in the fall. The Maple Leafs open up their 2012 season on the pitch at the Cardinal Stritch University Tournament in Milwaukee the first weekend of September.
