GOSHEN, Ind.- Before the first pitch of the 2012 softball season, head coach Lee Mast has already began putting together his next recruiting class.  Mast announced the signing of Norwell High School (Ossian, Ind.) stand out Morgan Chilton on Thursday. Chilton has been a big contributor to the Norwell softball program, serving as a four-year varsity letter winner.

Her versatility on the field will be of great benefit to the Leafs next season. Chilton is a switch hitter at the plate and strong defender in the outfield.

"Morgan is going to make our outfield much stronger with her speed," Mast explained.  "She also brings lots of speed on the bases path, plus she can switch hit to go along with being a very good slapper."

During her time at Norwell, Chilton has racked up numerous awards for her athletic abilities on the field. Some of these include being named all conference, being among the top 100 in the state in batting average (.395), Fort Wayne Journal Gazette All Area stolen base leader, Wells County Voice Athlete of the Week, and being a three-time Wells County Voice New Holland Player of the Game.

In addition to Norwell, Chilton has also played for club teams Fort Wayne Xtreme, Indiana Inferno, Fort Wayne Cougars, and Wild Thangz. All of these teams have helped to prepare her for the level of college play that is expected of her at Goshen.

The daughter of Sherri Cilton, Morgan plans on majoring in nursing when she starts at Goshen this fall.
