Goshen College Set To Rebrand Maple Leaf Athletics Logo

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen College Athletics Department is excited to announce its plans to re-brand its Maple Leaf logo this Spring.

Known as the "Maple Leafs" since the late 1950's, Goshen will continue the tradition that comes with the moniker. Plans also call for the re-branding to stick with the traditional purple and white as primary color marks of the program.

A new brand identity, though, will be created to help better tell the story of Maple Leaf student-athletes. Additional goals include creating a system of logos which will provide options for multiple uses, more uniformly representing all athletic programs, modernizing the program's look, and increasing brand recognition for Goshen Athletics and the college as a whole.

"We are very excited about this project and the opportunities it gives in better representing the great stories of Maple Leaf student-athletes," Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Josh Gleason said. "We believe this project is a strategic step where we can honor the tradition of the past while building momentum for a strong future ahead."

Funding for the re-branding project has been secured by the Maple Leafs Athletic Club, the official support club of Goshen College Athletics since 1999-2000. With their approval, a committee representing athletics as well as various other campus departments has worked on developing the process.

After discussing the project with nearly a dozen design and branding firms, the committee selected Mongoose Graphics of Thornton, Colorado to complete the project. A creative design studio specializing in custom logo design and sports branding, Mongoose recently won the 2013 SportsLogos.Net Best New Sports Logo Award for its work with Creighton University, besting out over 150 new logos unveiled across the sports world throughout last year (read more).

"Mongoose is extremely selective in the projects they choose to be a part of - one or two athletic brands a year - and we feel fortunate that they are as excited as we are in making the Maple Leaf brand come to life," Gleason explained. "They quickly understood and appreciated the things that make Goshen College Athletics unique and we are confident their expertise will lead our brand forward."

Final work on the new identity is expected to be completed late this Spring with a launch during May Term. To get more information and updates, follow us on Twitter at @GCMapleLeafs or follow the hashtag #LeafInsider. Any questions can be directed to Gleason at [email protected]
